The city of Riffa , formerly known as Ruffin, is the second largest city on the island of Bahrain, boasting a population of over 120,000. It is divided into two parts, East and West Riffa, and is second only in importance to Manama. The city has its own racecourse which opened in 1981, a right handed 12 furlong turf track, triangular in shape with a 6 furlong straight, with the capacity to hold 3,000 in the grandstand, and is located to the south of the city. There are 300 horses stabled at the track which stages races every Friday from November to April.

HH The Crown Prince Cup, His Majesty The King Cup, Bahrain Derby

The principal races are HH The Crown Prince Cup held in February at the same time as the Bahrain Silver Cup; His Majesty The King Cup held in March at the same time as the Bahrain Gold Cup; and the Bahrain Derby held in April at the same time as the Owners Cup.
Course today The racecourse continues to operate very successfully.
